Telling an African Horror Story With Beer Adriaanse – Virtual Masterclass

All African and International Filmmakers/Storytellers are invited to register for our virtual masterclass, “Telling an African Horror Story”

African Horror is a literary genre in its own right, a sub-genre of horror that has existed for centuries. It encompasses several horror sub-genres like supernatural horror, psychological horror, demonic/occultic horror, sci-fi horror, paranormal romance. 

In this class, you are going to learn how to write a relatable African Horror Story; the elements to use in your storytelling. 

Our guest speaker, Beer Adriaanse, is a filmmaker from Cape Town, South Africa. He’s written and directed two television series’ – Buurtwag (2015) and Ekstra Medium (2020), and acted in various South African films and television series’ like Wonderlus (2017)Kanarie (2017)Hotel (2016 – 2021)4 Mure (2020) and Fynskrif (2018 – 2020). 

His first feature film, Parable (2020), a horror set in a security estate on the outskirts of Johannesburg, was written by his brother, Jaco Ariaanse, and shot in 12 days on a limited budget. It was an official selection at the Macabro Horror Film Festival in Mexico and won Best Film at the New Orleans Horror Film Festival. The Adriaanse Brothers are currently working on their second feature film – a horror adventure set in the bloody mountain frontier of South Africa during the 1700s.

The virtual masterclass is scheduled to hold on Saturday, the 26th of February, 2022.
